The harbor is a lovely place to take a stroll and admire the many houseboats. There are also numerous restaurants, and comfortable benches invite you to linger.

Discover the endless starry sky Far away from artificial light sources, it's so dark here at night that you can see everything. You'll see more stars than you've ever seen before. Several celestial platforms are scattered throughout the nature reserve. Lie down and gaze up; you could spend hours here. You'll find the celestial platforms at the Vlinderbalg, Achter de Zwarten, and on the Zoutkamperplaat. Near one of the towers during the day? Then you can, of course, also use them for animal watching.

The birdsong in early summer is indescribable. A beautifully landscaped nature reserve with fantastic bike paths!

One of the special dates for the flower market is Good Friday. While Good Friday in Germany marks the beginning of Easter in a more contemplative way, it is not officially a holiday in the Netherlands. All shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, and stores are open, and you can go shopping as usual. Somewhere on the Grote Markt, there is always a "bloemendepot" where you can leave your freshly purchased plants for free between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. This way, you don't have to lug them around all day and can shop or relax in peace. Not a big place, but very nice and with some great places to stop and have a rest.

Always a great place to take a break on the long bike tour around the Lauwersmeer nature reserve. For fish and fries, an ice cream in the café at the front and a burger and fries on the outdoor terrace with a view of the harbor 😎
