'There's a lot of outrage' after fire at Elsloo teahouse 30/08/2025 The teahouse in Elsloo Castle Park was severely damaged by fire during the night from Friday to Saturday. Car tires were likely set on fire inside the teahouse, causing significant damage. "There's a lot of outrage among local residents," says Dion Groenestijn, who lives near the teahouse. "It's really affecting people, especially since this isn't the first time." Third fire Groenestijn told L1 on Saturday that the building had also been hit by a fire in 2020. "Fortunately, it wasn't too bad then and the damage was easily repaired." It was much more serious in 2015: the teahouse burned down completely. "There were doubts about rebuilding it at the time. Fortunately, they ultimately did. Because the teahouse is truly a landmark for us." A former mill where it appears that a stream runs directly through the barn and then cascades down from the roof. In addition, a beautiful property with many unique items on the farm, although private property that should be respected.

6월 14, 2024, Forest Trail and Park Behind Elsloo Castle
The current Elsloo Castle consists of the economy buildings of a 17th century (no longer existing) country house. An English landscape park was created near this castle at the beginning of the 19th century. Original elements such as views, slopes, winding paths, water features and special trees are still present here. The park as a whole is under the protection of Monumentenzorg. The park merges into the Elserbos and the Catsop landscape.

Almost the entire forest area in this walk is forbidden area: almost every path that leads to the forest is prohibited. Either there is flooding and there are calving footpaths or there are wild boars, more often there is no reason given. Long pants don't hurt either, some paths have been taken over by nettles and blackberries. I didn't feel really welcome, otherwise a nice walk.

This is an old water mill, the water comes from the pond that is much higher. The water goes through a gutter, falls/comes onto the mill wheel and from there it falls into the deeper stream

From the teahouse, you have a beautiful view of the Maas River and the Juliana Canal. You can also see Belgium beyond the Maas.

What a nice solution, the stream runs through the barn, as it were. If you cycle past here, there is nothing to worry about, but around the bend the road goes up steeply with an even 9% increase.

The characteristic Tea House in the Castle Park was set on fire by vandals on March 14, 2015. The whole of Elsloo and the surrounding area was upset. The house was rebuilt and is an exact copy of the original tea house, 't "Zomerhuuske" as it is called in Elsloo. From the tea house you have a beautiful view of the Juliana Canal and the Maas, which makes the climb more than worth it.
