10월 5, 2025, Valkenburg aan de Geul
Valkenburg has been one of the Netherlands' most important holiday destinations since around 1840, and tourism is the municipality's main source of income. This has much to do with the medieval town's picturesque location, but the extensive labyrinths of underground quarries also played an important role from the very beginning. However, the original idea of using the caves for air cures never came to fruition.

The Gulperberg is a 157-meter-high hill near Gulpen in South Limburg. A statue of the Virgin Mary stands at the top, and it offers a magnificent view of the Heuvelland region. The hill is popular with hikers and cyclists, partly due to the steep climb on the west side.

The Kalkoven bij Curfsgroeve is a dilapidated lime kiln from 1916, located in nature near Geulhem (South Limburg), near the former Curfsgroeve. In the past, marl was burned here into lime. The area is now a protected nature reserve with special animals and fossils. You can walk there via marked routes with beautiful views over the quarry. This boardwalk allows you to walk on top of a vulnerable piece of nature: the marshy chalk grassland behind the Geul where rare plant and animal species are given the chance to survive. Those who prefer an even more beautiful piece of nature simply open the gate here and walk - possibly with some Galloway cattle for company - instead of over the boardwalks on a grass path through an open part of the Ingendael nature reserve to the Geul where a small bridge takes you to a nature path between grassland, river and sloping forest. And you also end up at the Sint Gerlachuskerk if you want.

Please note: the most important relics that were once in the church are now in the treasury that you can visit freely. These include the silver bust of Gerlach(us) with his skull and the restored tunic (silk robe) of the saint.

5월 11, 2025, Sint-Gerlachuskerk Houthem
The history of the church of St. Gerlachus begins shortly after the saint's death, around 1200. A Norbertine monastery was founded on the spot where Gerlachus had lived in Houthem. At the same time, there is mention of a chapel in Houthem, dedicated to St. Martin, where mass was read. Houthem has certainly been an independent parish since 1600, separate from the monastery and the monastery church, the current church of St. Gerlachus. In 1793, just before the French arrived here and Houthem became part of the Austrian Netherlands, the Austrian emperor Joseph II abolished all contemplative orders and the sisters disappeared from Houthem for good. The building complex, including the church (the collegiate church or monastery church), had already been abandoned and remained empty. The current church was built in 1720 on the site of its predecessor. In 1751, the German baroque painter Johan Adam Schöpf painted frescoes in the entire interior of the church, which is unique for the Netherlands.
