The oldest documentary evidence of St. John's Church dates back to 1302. The immediate predecessor of today's building was a brick church with a granite foundation. The current church building was built between 1903 and 1905 according to the design of the architect Wilhelm Matthies from Bardowick. The fieldstone masonry of the previous church was partially integrated into the new building. The St. Johannis Church in Dahlenburg was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style between 1903 and 1905 and replaced a previous church from the Middle Ages. From the time of the previous building, however, an important late Gothic carved altar and a late Gothic gallery cabinet have been preserved. Equally important is the ornately designed Renaissance pulpit. Pommoissel is a part of the community of Nahrendorf in the district of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony. The village is located 3 km southeast of the core area of Nahrendorf on the northern edge of the Göhrde, which, with 75 km², is the largest contiguous mixed forest area in northern Germany. The forest area around Pommoissel is wonderfully diverse and beautiful for runners and hikers.

I only stopped here for a very short time, took two photos very quickly and then pedaled like crazy to look for the distance ... better get away quickly before someone here in Walmsburg pillories me! 😉

The little church in Dahlenburg. When visiting, it is worth visiting the square and taking some pictures. Right next to it you will find the marketplace if you want to buy something locally.

The sculpture is made of elm wood, comes from Wolf Kobernuss from Neetzendorf and has been on the village square in Walmsburg since 2010.
