It consists of two sawn-off bridge girders that embrace the old monument that was placed against the side of the road bridge in 1936: a female figure surrounded by the coats of arms of twelve cities from the North and South, where the Chambers of Commerce had campaigned for the construction of the road bridge at the time. The Arsenal as we know it today was built in 1793 to replace the old, dilapidated Arsenal. The rectangular brick building with wooden cornice was used as an arms and ammunition warehouse until the end of the fortress of Willemstad in 1926. After this period, the Arsenal was only used to store military goods. Since 1960, the striking building has been privately owned and regularly hosts cultural and social activities, such as the annual Christmas market in December.
