The Oirschotse Heide is a large heathland and shifting sand area, which is partly covered with Scots pines. It is used as a military training ground by units of the Royal Netherlands Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Military Police.

The story goes that the Miekoeksebrug owes its name to Mietje Koek who moved to Oirschot with her parents from the east of the country. During the construction of the Wilhelmina Canal, Mietje lived nearby and occasionally served a cup of coffee or a drink for passers-by. It is a so-called Bailey bridge, designed by the British Donald Bailey, who worked as a civilian for the British Ministry of Defense.

A very nice area, in which it is super hiking 🥾 leaves the Kampina nature reserve. Here you walk through beautiful mixed forest, past many clean lakes and marvel at a magnificent heath landscape. A visit is especially recommended here in August / September for pagan heat.
