The Neckermolen or Nekkermolen is a polder mill built around 1631, which was fitted with a screw between 1830 and 1840. The mill is a thatched octagonal mill of the ground-sailer type with an old Dutch sail cross. The cap of the mill is fitted with a cross-piece with wooden rollers, which is seasoned from the inside. The mill, like more North Holland polder mills, is an internal sailer. The Neckermolen is fitted with a Flemish catch. Together with an electric pumping station, the mill drains the Wormer, Jisp and Neck water board. (wikipedia)

The Defense Line of Amsterdam was a defense line that stretched over an area of 15 to 20 kilometers around the center of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Beautiful thatched historic mill that still serves as a pumping station to maintain the water level in the polders. The mill is clearly visible from both sides of the water. That's good too, because you can't go inside.

Fort aan de Nekkerweg was part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam: a defensive ring consisting of forts, batteries, dikes and locks that were supposed to protect the city, with the water as its greatest ally. The fort was inaugurated in 1912, after which it has had various functions over the years: from a prison to a detention camp and from a storage for explosives to the current wellness center.
