The bridge at the end, or beginning if you prefer, was built in memory of Edzard Krudop, former chairman of the Twickel Foundation.

A historic salt drilling rig and a testament to salt production. The underground salt in Delden was discovered in 1886. In 1919, the Royal Dutch Salt Industry began salt production in Boekelo using drilling rigs that injected hot water into the underground salt layers. This created a salt solution that was forced upwards under pressure as brine. The salt water was transported above ground via pipelines and then evaporated in the salt factory. Thanks to salt production, a large chemical industry emerged in Hengelo, which is now operated by the Nobian Group. Towns like Delden, Boekelo, and Hengelo are centers of the salt industry and also house museums dedicated to the history of salt, such as the Delden Salt Museum.

Here, birch and pine forests alternate with moist heathland. However, these have been cleared.
