When the heather is in bloom, this is a fantastic area with many beautiful photo opportunities. But you can hike at any time of year. The paths are mostly sandy and ideal for walking barefoot, although, surprisingly, no one I met was doing so.

The Noetselerberg is one of the highest points on the Sallandse Heuvelrug and offers a beautiful view over the heathland and forests of the National Park. The 'mountain' is actually a moraine that was formed during the ice age, and is now a popular starting point for walks across the heathland. From the top you have a view far into the area in clear weather, especially in August when the heathland is in bloom it is breathtakingly beautiful here.

Enjoy the view and walk along the blue path. From this viewpoint you can see Zwolle and further inland. If you walk further you will come to another viewpoint where, with a bit of luck, you can see all the way to Germany.
