The (replica) dome stands in the middle of the bend in the old tram track of the Rotterdam Tramway Company (RTM). From 1906 to 1965, RTM steam and diesel trams ran here to transport passengers to the beach. It is now a walking path.

In the dunes of Oostvoorne there once stood a small building that belonged to the Zeeburgh country house and was called "the belvedere" because of the beautiful view. It was used by the board of the then Voorne water board. In 1732, a new stone building with an octagonal plan and dome was built in the dunes, near the Koepelweg. In the past (around 1600) the ribbon village of Tinte and the surrounding area was an important area for madder cultivation. Tinte probably owes its name to this dye (rubia tinctorium in Latin). The symbol of Tinte is the môluk, local dialect for scarecrow. They used to watch over the newly sown fields and are nowadays originally dressed in the garden near the house. In 2005, a bronze village scarecrow was placed there, which was made by artist Adriaan Nette.
