The Gorcums Museum is modern and contemporary: we look back at history, but at the same time, we also have an eye for the present. We've been at our current location since 1995, but we've been around for even longer. The museum is situated in the heart of the most beautiful fortified town in the Netherlands. Gorinchem is a cultural city with a long history. Anyone walking through the town center will naturally become curious about the story behind it. The Gorcums Museum showcases a selection from this illustrious past, with art from both the past and present, and objects from the city's history. In other words, a historical and contemporary museum where history comes to life and changing (art) exhibitions continually surprise young and old.

In the past, salmon fishing was practiced on the Dutch rivers. It's hard to imagine that now.

My wife and I walk through all the fortified towns, and we've returned here again because it's a really nice town with an inner harbor, city walls, and beautiful facades...just fun to stroll around, but definitely also take a walk along the floodplains!

The only remaining gate in Gorinchem, and it's a beautiful one. Climb the ramparts and enjoy the view.

great for a short walk around Fort Vuren

The 34-metre-high Martinustoren was built in the first half of the 15th century. The top two sections date from 1530. The tower is nicknamed 'De Mosterdpot' (The Mostard Pot). There used to be a small mustard factory in the fortress. Seeds that had blown up took root on top of the tower, giving it its name.

The church tower of the St. Martin's Church in Woudrichem can be seen from afar. For those who want to visit Woudrichem, it is a landmark where the fortified town can be found. The history of this church is a piece of the history of this old town. At the end of the 7th century, a chapel was founded on the site where the choir of the church now stands, by an employee and traveling companion of Bishop Willibrord.
