In addition to a fixed section, the bridge also has a movable section, a double bascule bridge. The mills are inhabited and rented out. Tenants must be certified millers and turn the sails 60,000 times a year to keep the mill in top condition. Training to become a miller takes two years.

The City Bridge Dordrecht (also called Zwijndrechtse Bridge or Dordtse Bridge by Zwijndrecht residents) is a historic road bridge over the Oude Maas, which has connected the municipalities of Dordrecht and Zwijndrecht since 1939.

The Mazelaarsbrug in Dordrecht is a historic, manually operated swing bridge dating from after 1868 and is now a national monument. The bridge consists of a cast-iron frame with baluster railings and a wooden deck, spanning the entrance to the Maartensgat between Korte Geldersekade and Mazelaarsstraat.

The Mazelaarsbrug is located between the Maartensgat and the Leuvehaven in Dordrecht. The latter flows into the Oude Maas. The bridge was built in 1868 and has a wooden bridge deck and cast iron baluster railings. The bridge owes its name to the sack carriers, mazelaars, who carried sacks of corn here that were shipped from the Maas. The sack carriers' house at the bridge was a place where the mazelaars divided up the assignments. The large bell was rung when another load of corn had to be unloaded. The Mazelaarsbrug in Dordrecht is still operated manually by our Harbour Master and connects the Maartensgat marina with the city centre.
