Beautiful route

Discover the Historic Estate of Mariënwaerdt near Beesd If you're cycling or hiking through the Betuwe, make sure to stop at Landgoed Mariënwaerdt, a beautiful historic estate near Beesd. This privately-owned estate dates back to the 12th century and offers a stunning mix of forests, meadows, orchards, and stately avenues. The surrounding region is famous for its countless fruit trees, especially apple and pear orchards, which transform the landscape into a sea of blossoms in spring and a rich harvest scene in late summer. It’s a paradise for cyclists and photographers alike. There are well-maintained walking and cycling paths that take you through peaceful nature and past old farm buildings and romantic spots. Don’t miss the charming farm shop and café, where you can enjoy homemade apple pie or pick up regional products like cheese, honey, and jam. Mariënwaerdt is especially magical during blossom season and during the annual estate fair (Landgoedfair) in August. Tip: There’s a small parking area near the main entrance, and the estate is easily accessible from LF-routes and regional cycle networks.

The fruit trees are in bloom at the end of April/beginning of May and that is truly a beautiful sight. Others think so too and then it can get very busy on the dike. So drive slowly, or better: Go early in the morning if you want the road to yourself. It is even more beautiful, to see the morning sun shining through the blossom.

The town hall of Nieuwpoort is a town hall in the Dutch town of Nieuwpoort, province of South Holland. In order to better defend Holland, a new rampart was built around Nieuwpoort in the years 1673-1695. Part of this modernization was the construction of a new town hall. The building was built in 1697. The town hall has a landing at the front. The roof is crowned by a surrounding hipped roof with an open dome tower. The building stands on a covered area of the Haven with a weigh house with a curved gable at the rear. It has been protected as a national monument since 1968. The Bonkmolen, together with the still existing Vlietmolen, the Lekkersche Molen located between these two mills and the Rode- or Overtogtmolen also located on the Vliet, drained the Lakerveld polder. This polder was an independent municipality until 1814. It was then merged with the Municipality of Lexmond-Achthoven to form the municipality of Lexmond-Lakerveld. Both located in the Vijfheerenlanden. Meerkerk is located in the Alblasserwaard. In the meantime, the Lakerveld polder has been expanded with the Achthoven (to the NW of the Vlietmolen) and Lexmond (of which the lower tower of the Pluck-op Molen still remains).
