A wip mill is a further development of the standard mill and is usually a polder mill. The rotating, usually brightly colored upper part contains the 'wing shaft' that turns the 'king's spindle'. The prefix 'wip' refers to the movement of these mills during grinding.

Beautiful hollow post mill, also special are the two vertical mills on either side of the back of the upper house; these start turning when the mill is not exactly in the wind.

Unfortunately, the long Molenpad has become a concrete road, as part of the cycle path, instead of the nice unpaved path that it was.

Walk through the watery and typical Dutch landscape of Zoeterwoude. In Zoeterwoude-Dorp you will find many cheese farms and the largest Heineken beer brewery is located here.

The Crosier Monastery dates from 1926 and is now used as student accommodation. This monastery used to bear the name 'Mater dolorosa':

The mill that should control the clay geysers is a Dutch meadow water mill. Rotation of the mill causes air to enter a pressure vessel. With sufficient wind, one of the 7 fountains should spray every 10 minutes. The fountains are in the clay geysers, which are made of lime, cement, sand and straw. They are in a barren hay meadow on rather dry soil in the summer. The intention was that moisture-loving plants would grow around the geysers. The technology does not work well, so a solar-powered pump may be used for this project. (source: IVN)

June 2022 For the time being, the move to Groenlo has not been realised. The website still states that the museum can be visited by appointment.
