From the Auwiesen headland between the Elbe and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal there is this great view of Lauenburg.

Since I come from the south of the country, two things surprised me. Firstly, that the Elbe has a high, steep bank and secondly, that it is so wildly overgrown. If you didn't know that you were on the Elbe, you might think you were in a low mountain range🤷🏻‍♂️

The hiking trail "Hohes Elbufer" (W30) also runs along here, which I can highly recommend at this point. Located directly on the banks and slopes of the Elbe, historic half-timbered houses are lined up on Elbstraße. With the many lovingly renovated houses, the old town of Lauenburg is the largest ensemble of monuments in all of Schleswig-Holstein. History comes to life on a walk along the old cobblestone streets of the shipping town. Numerous small alleys and stairs connect the old town with the upper town.
