The Beelitz-Heilstätten workers' pulmonary sanatorium, built between 1898 and 1930 by the Berlin State Insurance Company, form one of the largest hospital complexes in the Berlin area. It is a listed ensemble of 60 buildings on a total area of approx. 200 hectares. The lung sanatoriums were built in two areas northwest of the railway line, and the sanatoriums for the treatment of non-infectious diseases in the two areas southeast of the railway line. Near the train station, there is a memorial to the fallen of the First World War. On the forecourt of the former hospital church, which was demolished in 1971. This simple memorial was created by Ludwig Cauer and erected on May 7, 1928, by the Berlin State Insurance Institute. At the front is a (mourning) figure and the following inscription: The Berlin State Insurance Institute erected this memorial to the employees of the Beelitz Sanatorium who fell for Germany between 1914 and 1918.
