The Ochsenkopf (1,024 m) is the 7th peak on the 12-peak tour in the Fichtel Mountains. The mountain's true landmark is not the modern tower, but the Ochsenkopf emblem: a bull's head carved into the granite rock on the summit plateau. The story behind it is ancient: the head was carved into the rock as early as the Middle Ages, giving the mountain its name.

This highlight was already there years ago and was then likely merged with some of the numerous other highlights on the summit plateau. It's no wonder that many people are reflecting and adding all the photos taken near the summit that have nothing to do with the landmark and can't be found there either, or they're constantly creating "new" "highlights."

If you're enjoying the Ochsenkopf, you can definitely make the short detour! The last few meters involve climbing🥾, but the rest of the short path from the summit plateau is bikeable. Of course, you don't have to miss out on the rocks typical of the Ochsenkopf😉
