The path is very easy to walk

The typical Ausseer wooden boats - called "Plätte" - are made in Aussee using old traditional craftsmanship. They are box-shaped, keelless boats made of fir and spruce wood that are only operated with an oar.

The houses are very characteristic of this area: Ground floor plastered, the upper floors made of wood and the very original "Brickl" - the veranda. And of course the decorations are also part of it. This atypical veranda extends over all floors.

Lake Altaussee is certainly one of the most romantic places in Austria. The view of the Dachstein glacier in the second part of the trail is not only a particularly popular photo motif, but will also remain in your memory forever - with or without a camera. Lake Altaussee is three kilometers long, up to one kilometer wide and surrounded to the north and east by the foothills of the Totes Gebirge, and is drained by the Altausseer Traun, one of the three source rivers of the Traun.

The walk around the lake takes about 90 minutes.

Wonderful path along the Koppentraun. Worthwhile for running and hiking in both directions, but also challenging as a climb. 😉

The Aussee weekly market takes place on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fresh fruit and vegetables, honey, wines, jams, sausage & cheese, handicrafts and much more.
