The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Ayot Greenway is a wonderful off-road link out of Welwyn Garden City toward the Chilterns, which can be subsequently combined with The Nickey Line.

The obelisk was first erected at Wrest in the 1730s. According to the notes in an album of Views of Wrest dated 1831, the inscription on the obelisk read ‘To the Memory of the birth of George Earl of Harold, son of the Duke of Kent by his second wife Sophia’. George was born in 1732 but died in infancy, leaving the Duke of Kent without an heir.

The obelisk at the north-western edge of Moat Wood in Trent Park was built around 1700. You'll find far-reaching views from the top, which is the highest point in the park and a nice little hill to run in both directions.

This impressive obelisk lies just off the London LOOP trail in Enfield's Trent Country Park. It was put here in the 30s, having been moved from Wrest Park by the owner of Trent House. It's Grade II-listed and is well worth making a detour for.

This is so cool and a great way to revitalize a disused railway station platform

The historic Hertfordshire county town, Hertford dates back to the 10th century and is nestled at the confluence of no less than four rivers: the Lea, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The town is home to the Norman Hertford Castle, which is Grade II-listed. Hertford is the starting point of the New River Path and also features on the Hertfordshire Way and Lea Valley Walk long-distance trails. There is a plethora of amenities and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.

Shallow bridge across the river Lea. A great place to paddle on extremely hot days - no better way to cool down mid ride!

It's slightly off the London Loop but worth the few extra 100m detour for the view over the park.
