Alban way is well located and it's the easiest way to get from Hatfield to St. Albans.

Route 61 (the Alban Way) follows a disused rail track. This path is tarmacked all the way to Hatfield. Following Route 61 any further that the Hatfield Galleria takes you down the side of busy dual carriageways which isn't quite as nice :(

Well-paved but relatively narrow, meaning lots of dodging other cyclists and pedestrians and limiting speed. Nice to pass the old railway platforms though, and a very easy and direct route between Hatfield and St Albans.

A great stretch of old railway line that has all been surfaced. Going from near the St Albans Abbey station all the way to the Galleria in Hatfield with only a handful of road crossings. Some of the old station platforms have been restored to their former glory with signs and flowers on display. Great for cycling with the family, although can be quite busy with walkers and runners around St Albans but it is wide enough most of the way that it is not a problem.

Very easy route between Hatfield and St Albans, although it is a little too congested for my liking.

Alban Way is a trail for cyclists and walkers along the former route of the Hatfield to St Albans branch line of the Great Northern Railway. The trail is surfaced and suitable for mountain bikes, gravel bikes and hybrids.

Like that the national route marker has been painted with different colours- makes it stand out

but if you go through the Hatfield Galleria car park you can continue east along the same old railway track across Hatfield. Follow the Sustrans route across Welwyn Garden City, or use roads and cycle paths to navigate WGC, and join Cole Green Way to Hertford and onward to the Lee Valley river towpaths

try and avoid busy exercise times - would be nice if it was wider now with a seperate cycle lane
