The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Really enjoyed visiting Hertford Castle. Feels like stepping back in time to the days of William The Conquerer!! 🚴🏼‍♂️

Ayot Greenway is a wonderful off-road link out of Welwyn Garden City toward the Chilterns, which can be subsequently combined with The Nickey Line.

In the care of the National Trust and open to the public, Shaw's Corner was the home of Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw. In the grounds is the rotating writing hut where Shaw wrote most of his plays after moving there in 1906. The historic Hertfordshire county town, Hertford dates back to the 10th century and is nestled at the confluence of no less than four rivers: the Lea, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The town is home to the Norman Hertford Castle, which is Grade II-listed. Hertford is the starting point of the New River Path and also features on the Hertfordshire Way and Lea Valley Walk long-distance trails. There is a plethora of amenities and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.
