The historic Hertfordshire county town, Hertford dates back to the 10th century and is nestled at the confluence of no less than four rivers: the Lea, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The town is home to the Norman Hertford Castle, which is Grade II-listed.
Hertford is the starting point of the New River Path and also features on the Hertfordshire Way and Lea Valley Walk long-distance trails. There is a plethora of amenities and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.
