Super alpine pasture with mega good view

The glacier is impressive, and its retreat shocking. The pictured glacial whirlpool has completely disappeared. A lake with icebergs remains. How long will this last?

The new Further Hut was opened in 1929 and offers a great view. It is located on the Tauern Westweg and the Arnoweg, and the Kratzenbergsee can be reached quickly below the hut. From the end of the valley (approx. 1,641 meters) it is also possible to transport backpacks using the material lift. More information is available at https://www.fuerther-huette.at/.

The interesting path, which winds its way along the steep mountain slope east of the Schlatenbach with many bends, overcomes a height of 400 meters (1740 m down in the valley of the Gschlößbach; 2140 m at the Salzbodensee). It goes past mighty, powerfully rushing waterfalls. There are changing views up and over to the mountains of the Venediger group with their impressive glaciers, as well as down into the wider valley with the Gschlößbach.

The alpine pasture is not open for guests, but there is a wonderful view from here.

Großvenediger: A relatively easy, yet not to be underestimated and impressive high tour to the "world-old majesty".

Shepherds gave the small, triangular pond with a small, round island of cotton grass in its middle this name because of its appearance. Like the Salzbodensee below, it is dammed by moraines. An examination of the moor, which now only exists in remnants, provided important information for assessing post-glacial glacier and climate fluctuations. A remnant of pine wood embedded in the lowest layers of peat was dated to be around 10,000 years old. Between 7,700 and 9,000 years ago the moor was in a well-growing, closed forest. Due to a climatic setback 7,500 years ago, dead tree wood was stored in the moor, and peat growth has virtually stopped for 6,800 years. Nowadays the whole area is forest-free. Silting processes have caused the Eye of God to continue to grow over the last few years.
