From the medieval castle ruins of Virneburg, located 430 m above sea level, you can see the village of the same name, the Nitzbach stream winding around the slate cone and the St. Trinitatis chapel with its leaning tower.

The juniper heath on the Schafberg is a natural gem. It's a great place to take a short breather. You can smell the aromatic air and enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding Eifel landscape.

A narrow path winds its way through the deciduous forest from the refuge to the viewing platform on the Brauberg along the steep mountain slope. It can be a little uneasy on this steep slope. Again and again you can catch a glimpse of the breathtaking view through the trees.
