Beautiful and quiet forest (if in high season). The hiking trails are almost in order, sometimes it can be a bit muddy during heavy rain. If you are lucky you might spot some deer 😊

This area has seen its share of wars. It could hardly be otherwise, for a forest that dates back to the 13th century. The War of the Spanish Succession still rears its head here and there. Here you will find remains of the Line that served in 1701. (Information board on site) One of the paths in the bid is therefore called "Liniedreef". This runs along the canal "De Linie".

In the 19th century, coniferous forests were planted on a large scale in the Stropersbos. That wood was needed to firmly support the tunnels of the coal mines. But in terms of natural value it did not amount to much. That is why the coniferous forest was thinned and cut down over the years. Young heathland appeared again, with bushes and shrubs. Highly appreciated by field crickets and woodlarks. Grazers ensure that the young heath does not reforest. (Information board on site)
