The first mention of the parish of Our Lady dates back to 1125. That year, Bishop Burchard of Cambrai, in a charter, transferred the parish's personation to the Benedictine Abbey of Kortenberg, at the request of Abbess Ida. It's difficult to visualize the old church. The current neo-Gothic church was consecrated in 1875. The floor plan consists of a Latin cross. The transept measures 26.7 m, and the distance between the choir and the western tower is 59.8 m. This square tower measures 47.6 m to the weathercock. It's difficult to form a clear picture of the old church. Only a few iconographic sources have survived, such as a drawing by Vincent Anthony (c. 1650). The devastation caused to the building by the numerous wars and limited financial resources prevented a thorough restoration.
