A forest path runs through the Schiplaken Estate. Don't forget to stop at Schiplaken Castle. It's an old medieval castle site with its characteristic high courtyard and farmyard. An information board on site provides further explanation.

During World War II, the skies above Hofstade and the surrounding area were the scene of fierce air battles between the German Luftwaffe and the Allies. Several aircraft were shot down or lost due to engine failure, including the RAAF Halifax III HX 267 and RAF B-25 Mitchell Mark II FW224 bombers. This monument was erected in memory of the four crew members of the B-25 Mitchell Mark II FW224, 98 Squadron RAF, which crashed at this location on February 2, 1945. HICKS B.I.H. Pilot Officer RAAF WINTER G.A. Pilot Officer RAF BOGAN E.A. Pilot Officer RAAF BARKER A. Flight Sergeant RAF and in memory of the seven crew members of the Hallfax III HX 267 466 Squadron RAAF that crashed at Zemst on May 28, 1944. The main entrance to Hofstade-Baden is still located on Tervuursesteenweg. From 1933 to 1936, the estate attracted crowds of day trippers. Many arrived by car or bicycle, while others traveled to Hofstade by boat or train. During this period, the estate earned its nickname "sea of poor people" because it was primarily ordinary people who, due to the Depression of the 1930s, lacked the means to travel to the coast, who spent their free time there.
