Resteigne Castle is a sturdy 18th-century castle located near the picturesque bridge over the Lesse River. It has a long and rich history, dating back to the 12th century, when it belonged to the Loraine family. It has changed hands several times over the centuries, passing to the Berlo, Mérode, Rouveroy, and Hoffschmidt families. The castle is now privately owned but can be rented for events and weddings.

Hofmeier Pepin van Herstal established a villa on the site along the road between Dinant and Rochefort... This fortification was expanded by his successors and subsequently fell into the hands of the lords of Celles... In the 12th century, Wouter van Beaufort acquired the seigneury through his marriage to Ode of Brittany... His castle burned down in 1200, but was rebuilt by his descendants around 1230... This was necessary again after a destruction by the Dinantes in 1410... The castle retained its military function until the at the end of the Middle Ages and was then rebuilt in the Renaissance and later centuries: battlements disappeared, gabled roofs were added and embrasures were enlarged into windows...

Unfortunately the castle was closed. Note opening times - outside the high season only on weekends. From the outside it looks like a little fairytale castle.
