A castle steeped in history. Nearby (less than 3km away) are the ruins of Baron Hofschmidt's Hermitage, featuring famous poems by Lamartine, Boileau, and others, engraved directly into the rock with exceptional calligraphy.

The castle is located in the charming Ardennes landscape between Waulsort and Dinant, directly on the banks of the Meuse River. It was built on the ruins of an old fortress that was destroyed in 1554. Originally a Renaissance-style manor house, it was enlarged and modified in the 17th and 18th centuries. This former summer residence of the Counts de Beaufort-Spontin boasts a refined and cosmopolitan interior. Its salons were furnished and decorated by the 20 generations who have lived there…here, history comes alive in a magnificent setting. The castle's beautiful classical gardens and their orange trees, some 300 years old, are considered an exceptional heritage of the Parks & Gardens of Wallonia. Their design was inspired by the work of Louis XIV's gardeners at Versailles. Stroll through the labyrinth of arcades and head to the foot of the charming Trianon. The well-structured beauty of these gardens offers a distinctive contrast to the wooded slopes and steep cliffs surrounding the valley. The Priory of Anseremme originated from a farm belonging to the Abbey of Saint-Hubert, founded in the early 9th century and remodeled in the 16th and 17th centuries. The buildings of Le Prieuré were used by the abbey. Today, the premises are available for rent for weddings and celebrations.

We were very rudely approached and chased off the property as we were leaving. The access situation was unclear to us; all the gates were wide open and inviting. It wasn't clear to us that it was private property; it felt very public. Under no circumstances should we enter. The owner is insulted and argues, and lacks empathy and humanity!

Not entirely privately owned, but it is rented out to wedding parties. Depending on the party, you'll be evicted from the premises in a more or less unfriendly manner.

Resteigne Castle is a sturdy 18th-century castle located near the picturesque bridge over the Lesse River. It has a long and rich history, dating back to the 12th century, when it belonged to the Loraine family. It has changed hands several times over the centuries, passing to the Berlo, Mérode, Rouveroy, and Hoffschmidt families. The castle is now privately owned but can be rented for events and weddings.
