Nice Statue of Eliane Cossey (Poperinge, 9 December 1902 – London, 1942), known by the nickname Ginger, was a striking red-haired precocious child in the Belgian town of Poperinge during the First World War. The café "A la Poupée", an unpronounceable name for English speakers, on the main square grew under the name "Ginger's" into one of the most famous taverns behind "The Ypres Salient". The appeal of the young diva can be read in various diary excerpts and in the Visitors Book with compliments and drawings. Jesus' Cross Sign of faith, hope, and protection This crucifix depicts Jesus on the cross, a powerful symbol of the Christian faith. For centuries, such crosses stood along roads, at crossroads, or near fields, as places of prayer, reflection, and protection. It reminds passersby of suffering and sacrifice, but also of comfort, hope, and forgiveness. 🕯️ In the past, people often paused here for a silent prayer. This cross is part of Poperinge's religious heritage.

The Gasthuis was originally a "passant's guesthouse," a kind of hospital where nuns cared for the needy and strangers passing through the city. Only later did the nuns begin to care for the sick, concentrating exclusively on this in the 18th century. Since 1990, the Gasthuis Chapel has served as an exhibition space. Death notices are displayed on the side wall, a custom still found in Torhout and Bruges. Local residents are informed of deaths through posters, which can also be found on the three churches of Poperinge.
