In Selzen stands a replica of a Roman gravestone. The work by Nackenheim sculptor Rainer Knußmann is located in a square at the corner of Gaustraße and Kirschgartenstraße and was donated by three Selzen residents: Volker, his wife Annemarie, and his sister Helga Schätzel, who collected donations for it. The replica was unveiled on September 11, 2005.[1] The original gravestone is now in the State Museum of Mainz. It was discovered in 1935 during the regulation of the Selz River, west of the bridge at the Hahnheim-Selzen train station, along with other gravestones. Wagon marks on some of the stones suggest that they were reused to create a ford across the river. The stones are dated to the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. In the restored section of the Selz river, the beaver has built a large lodge and dammed the river to create a small lake. It looks absolutely fantastic.

The story behind the Goose Fountain is as follows: As recently as the beginning of the 20th century, communal goose-herding existed in some Rhenish-Hessian towns, including Bechtolsheim. The shepherd would go from farm to farm, blowing the horn to gather the geese, sometimes several hundred of them, which he would lead out of the village into the fields and meadows to graze. In the evening, they would return. I think it's great that the knowledge of this tradition isn't lost... so this fountain is something like a "Rhenish-Hessian knight's stone"!

Beavers have dammed the Selz River here. This impressive beaver burrow is adorned with interesting details.

Adenauer Corner

Such facilities are often very helpful, great.

The square around it is the so-called Kanzlereck. It is named after Konrad Adenauer, who travelled along the railway branch line here during his visit in 1957. The railway line has since been dismantled and is now a great cycle path 👍
