From this point you can enjoy a wonderful, if not the best, view of the rock church of Madonna della Corona near Spiazzi. On the way to the pilgrimage church you pass a Stations of the Cross with life-size figures and you keep looking down into the Adige Valley. The highest pilgrimage church in Italy is at an altitude of 773 meters and was built directly into and on the rock face. It is unmistakable that the church has merged with the rock, because the west and parts of the north wall consist largely of the rock of the mountain. The wall behind the altar of the Madonna della Corona is unusual and contains the miraculous image, a figure of the Virgin Mary with the body of Jesus on her knees (Pietà), surrounded by a crown of thorns and five groups of angels. The pilgrimage church was built in the 15th century, but there is said to have been a hermit church there from the 12th century. In 1982 the church was given the title “Basilica minor” and on April 17, 1988, Pope John Paul II visited the place of pilgrimage.

Madonna della Corona Pilgrimage Church near Spiazzi and a footpath with Stations of the Cross, 15 stations and life-size bronze figures leads from there to the church. The well-known place of pilgrimage nestles at a height (774 m above sea level) on a vertical rock face and is worth a visit simply because of this spectacular location. At first monks who belonged to the San Zeno monastery of Verona lived here, in 1434 the Santuario passed to the Maltese Cross Order. The sanctuary is located in Spiazzi, a hamlet of Caprino, and can be reached via the provincial road coming from Caprino. Alternatively, there is a two-hour hike along a pilgrimage route from Brentino, a hamlet on the east side of Monte Baldo. It's all uphill!

A good way to get to Monte Baldo, but then hit the hiking trails! There's so much to discover.

Picturesque holiday resort at the foot of Monte Baldo Malcesine is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the lake and is therefore dominated by tourism. Nevertheless, the town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda has retained a pleasant atmosphere and you can really feel at home here. The extremely picturesque townscape is dominated by a mighty Scaliger castle. This towers over the medieval town center with small squares, arched passages and bumpy cobbled paths, almost all of which lead to the old harbor. The beautiful waterfront promenade begins to the south, along which you can walk to the lush Val di Sogno peninsula - past several beautiful bathing areas. There is a beach north of the town, but bathers share it with surfers and sailors. A cable car runs from Malcesine to Tratto Spino, 1,760 meters high, a peak of Monte Baldos. Up here you have a fabulous view of the lake embedded in mountain ranges. The mountain station is an ideal starting point for hikes or mountain bike tours in the huge mountain range. A great offer from the community is the bus service, which was set up especially for holidaymakers in the summer months. The tourist bus leaves Malcesine every hour and takes you, among other things, to the cable car on Monte Baldo. You can buy tickets on the bus or in restaurants, shops and partner hotels. https://www.gardasee.de/malcesine

Malcesine is located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, right at the foot of Monte Baldo. Around 4,000 people live in the community, whose silhouette is dominated by Scaliger Castle, which forms a very important part of Malcesine's history. The landscape, characterized by the surrounding mountains and the gentle shores of the lake, also provides a unique contrast that only a few other towns on Lake Garda can offer. Like many places on the north and east banks of the water, Malcesine primarily attracts wind and kite surfers. The reliably blowing winds always ensure a pleasant breeze outside the coast. Malcesine is divided into two districts, so-called fractions - Cassone and Navene. https://www.gardasee.at/orte/malcesine.html
