12월 29, 2024, Sanctuary of the Most Holy Crucifix (Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso), Longiano
The original church, probably in Gothic style, smaller but perhaps embellished with 14th century paintings from the Rimini school, underwent various events, until in 1755, having become unsafe due to a subsidence of the ground, it was demolished. On March 18, 1764, Monsignor Francesco Manzi from Longiano consecrated the new building, designed by the Rimini architect Pietro Borboni. The building is in neoclassical style, "perfect in its lines and measurements, and of a sober and controlled elegance". ... On November 28, 1828, Pope Leo XII elevated the church to a Sanctuary. During the Second World War, the Sanctuary, like many other places in Longiano, suffered very serious damage. After being damaged by numerous grenades, it was hit during the bombing on October 7, 1944: the choir, niche, altar, organ, decorations and frescoes were destroyed. The Sanctuary was restored in 1965, with the strengthening of the structures and the reintegration of the architectural lines. The Miraculous Image of the Holy Crucifix The image of the Crucifix, dating back to the 13th century, is of the Pisano-Giuntesca school, painted on canvas applied to a wooden panel. The devotion dates back to a prodigious event, which occurred on May 6, 1493: a calf, donated by the citizens of Gambettola to the friars of the convent, passed in front of the sacred image and knelt down and only rose after the blessing of the Father Superior. The faithful who flocked to the cloister of the convent, moved by the event, began the first procession through the streets of the town. The image of the Crucifix, carefully restored in 1942 by Prof. Enrico Podio, is enclosed in a large niche, created in 1965 based on a design by Gildo Atti of Bologna. Still open and open to visitors, the Malatesta Castle of Longiano stands on a hillock 179 meters above sea level. Born as a military stronghold against Lombard incursions, over the centuries it has been transformed first into a noble residence, then into a municipal administrative headquarters and finally into the current museum of modern and contemporary art.

Montiano, a natural balcony on the hills that dare to reach the sea, is rich in flavors and ancient vestiges. A legend has it that this village was founded by Roman slaves who, fleeing from the chains of forced labor, redeemed their freedom, finding a refuge and a new homeland here. Due to its strategic position, Montiano was over the centuries under the dominion of noble families, the most important of which were the Malatesta, and by the Holy See, amidst disputes that continued until the unification of Italy. ... The heart of the town is the ancient Rocca Malatesta which, with its shape, outlines the borders of the village, the ancient home of Giacomo Malatesta. (Source: https://ipercorsidelsavio.it/localita/montiano/ ) The fortress, whose first structures date back to the 9th century, was adapted into a rich residential residence by Giacomo Malatesta, lord of the county of Montiano since 1570. The building, which suffered numerous damages during the Second World War and was affected following various renovations, it is now home to a kindergarten and can be visited externally. Giacomo Malatesta was also responsible for the construction of an access gate to the village which, due to the restoration promoted in 1712 by Sigismondo Spada, is known as Arco degli Spada. Next to the Malatesta door is the deconsecrated church of S. Francesco, today a cultural centre... ... Just outside the village, on a hill from which you can enjoy a beautiful view, there is the Parco delle Rimembranze: following the long staircase that leads to the top of the hill you arrive at the War Memorial, erected in 1925 in memory of the people from Montiano who fell in the Great War. 10월 4, 2022, Longiano Town Center
The historic center of Longiano, an excellently preserved village of medieval origins, surrounded by double walls, offers numerous historical and artistic testimonies ... Its origins probably date back to a period between the 7th and 8th centuries, when the population of the area moved from the plain to the hills, to find refuge from the Lombard incursions. Longiano reached its maximum splendor by becoming the residence of the Malatesta family. Subsequently it belonged to the Papal State, with a brief Venetian dominion evidenced by the monumental basin in the courtyard of the Castle. In 1790 it fell, like all of Romagna, under the sovereignty of Napoleon Bonaparte. During the Second World War the territory of Longiano, not far from the Gothic Line, suffered numerous damages due to the bombings of the Allies: the war shelter, which partly crosses the historic centre, remains as evidence of this. First of all, a visit to the Malatesta Castle and the treasures of the Balestra Foundation that are kept there is a must... ... The War Refuge, a tunnel dug into the rock, which crosses the historic centre... is a testimony to the dramatic days of the passage of the Front and the bombings which also heavily hit Longiano during the Second World War. The Petrella Theater is a nineteenth-century jewel, a typical example of Italian theatre, finely decorated and characterized by extraordinary acoustics and still very lively artistic activity. You can also visit interesting historic churches: the Sanctuary of the Holy Crucifix ... and the Collegiate Church of San Cristoforo, with masterpieces from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. (Source: https://www.e-borghi.com/it/borgo/Forli%20Cesena/98/longiano) Touring Club Orange Flag since 2005... The historic center still preserves clearly visible the characteristic double walls, a castle of medieval origins, former residence of the Malatesta family, an imposing Civic Tower, five museums, a war shelter, two important historic churches, a nineteenth-century theatre. 12월 12, 2021, Rocca Malatestiana di Montiano
The Malatesta Fortress (late 16th century) which dominates the town of Montiano is now only partially open to visitors. Heart-shaped, it overlooks and fills the small village. From the outside, its high walls hide the elegance of the interior and give the building a corrupt and powerful air. At the time of its greatest splendor it had elegant crenellated walls, large rooms, precious frescoes, a church and a large garden. (Source: https://emiliaromagnaturismo.it/it/localita/montiano) Residence of the Malatesta family by the will of Carlo Felice, the most substantial part of its construction dates back to the sixteenth century, but the first walls almost certainly date back to the ninth century. Heavily compromised during the last war, it was partially demolished to avoid further dangerous collapses. Later some parts were rebuilt and the municipal kindergarten was housed there. Just outside the village of Montiano, on a hill from which you can enjoy a beautiful view, is the Parco delle Rimembranze: along the long staircase that leads to the top of the hill you reach the Monument to the Fallen, built in 1925 in memory of the fallen Montianese in the Great War. (Source: http://www.itinerariinromagna.it/comune/18/montiano) Designed by the Ravenna architect Gallamini and inaugurated in 1925, it recalls the 62 Montianese fallen in the war of 1915-18. On the sides of the monument, the names of the fallen of the last war were subsequently added. Surrounded by the trees of the Parco della Rimembranza, it occupies the top of a hill just outside the village, which overlooks the Romagna plain.
