The Church of the Holy Cross Around 600, the Church of the Holy Cross was built as a double church on the summit of the hill in the area of the present-day monastery. The south church had a vestibule and treps, a brick screen in the sanctuary, and a baptismal font in an extension to the east. The tomb of Bishop Ingenuin (c. 605) was discovered in the atrium of the north church. This was sealed with marble slabs, and a structure with frescoes was erected over it. An altar stood above this tomb until 1680, although the relics had already been transferred to Brixen in the 10th century. The reliquary was located in the Baroque altar. It probably originated from the church in the vineyard. Another find is the Carolingian interlace stone. The Church of the Holy Cross was rebuilt in the 11th century as a four-pillar basilica with a flat ceiling. The Gothic reconstruction, featuring cross-ribbed vaults and frescoes, took place around 1400. The current building dates from around 1680.

Säben Monastery has a monk again. It's nice that it hasn't been downgraded to a hotel. But daily mass alone will only attract the older generation of faithful Catholics. "Panorama" is an exaggeration. In fact, you only catch four or five glimpses of the Peitlerkofel, the Geissler Group, the Fonteklaus, and the seemingly tiny Eisack Valley between the tall bushes. But you can constantly hear the roar of the highway. A more beautiful descent to Klausen begins very close to this panoramic trail https://t1p.de/fy2my.
