The Moarhof above Eppan is an absolute insider tip. At the end of the road, you'll find a farm with a snack bar that's second to none. Located at the foot of the Gantkofel mountain, amidst meadows and fields, you'll find the best Schlutzer (sausages) in South Tyrol! The sensational taste of wild herbs and spinach in handmade dumplings with brown butter and Parmesan cheese is beyond words! We met locals from Bolzano there who were there for the first time.

This obviously relatively new shrine - it bears the inscription "A. D. 1997" (i.e. "Anno Domini", in the year of our Lord) - is dedicated to Saint JOSEF (or JOSEPH), the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the betrothed of the Mother of God Mary. The feast day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is March 19th, and the Church also celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.

It rises up powerfully at the fork in the road: the large wooden cross with crucifix, surrounded by a brick - one might almost say "chapel". A valuable small sacred monument and also in a well-maintained condition, thus a visible sign of the popular piety that is still practiced today.
