In the municipality of Castiglione Olona, the Monteruzzo castle stands out for its white profile and its imposing towers. Being located in an elevated position, it is clearly visible from afar and today houses the civic library. Furthermore, it is often used as a center for fairs and events.

The country oratory is among the oldest in Lombardy. It is dated to the 5th-6th century, as the form of the Roman foot (29.6 cm) often occurs. The stratification of frescoes in the apse and in the triumphal arch is the result of subsequent interventions: the oldest date back to the Byzantine period. The work of greatest interest is the Two-Faced Janus, in ocher, dating back to the 8th century: it was probably part of a lost allegory of the months. The crucifixion dates back to the 15th century and recalls the one in the church of Bizzozzero.

Humble country church, completed in 1680 in the place where tradition has it that ten cases of miraculous healing occurred. The place is much loved by the local population, it overlooks a beautiful clearing in the woods.

The historic home of Cardinal Branda Castiglioni testifies to the greatness of his humanist thought. It is composed of a fourteenth-century body next to a fifteenth-century one (significantly altered over the centuries). In 1435 Masolino frescoed the Cardinal's study with the stupendous and unreal view of Veszprèm (Hungarian mountain resort). Inside there are other notable works by Vecchietta and Paolo Schiavo. A Lombard artist, painted in 1423 the so-called "Cardinal's Chamber" with fruit trees, cheering cherubs, late Gothic decorations and mottos taken from classical Latin authors, which hand down to us the refined spiritual testament of Cardinal Castiglioni.

The Valmorea Railway, inaugurated in 1926, was an international line that connected the north of Milan with Mendrisio. The Valmorea station was the border station. After just two years, however, the fascist regime decreed its closure. Until 1977, only two short sections remained in operation that served some local factories. Today, thanks to the Friends of the Valmorea Railway Association, the Valmorea railway can be traveled from Mendrisio to Malnate Olona. The 7.5 km of track have been renovated for tourist use: on rare occasions it is possible to travel the route on vintage trains.
