First mentioned in the Ratzeburg tithe register in 1230, the church in Zahrensdorf is a transformation through the early centuries of Mecklenburg Christianity. The nave, built from neatly layered fieldstone blocks, is a typical church building from the late Romanesque period. The four slender slit windows set in deep niches already herald the transition to Gothic architecture. In the 15th century, a west tower was added to the originally towerless building. In the medieval castle tradition, the tower was built as a mighty defensive tower with a fieldstone basement and boarded-up upper floors. The deep jambs of the west portal show the immense strength of the masonry. The ringing in the bell chamber with three bells dates from 1927 and replaced the bells that were melted down for military purposes in the First World War. The last building component to be added was the brick choir in the 17th century. Features of the Renaissance and early Baroque are unmistakable here. A half-timbered south sacristy completes the building as a whole. The corners of the building and the choir wall are supported by strong buttresses. The portal on the north side has been bricked up. The south and west portals provide access to the interior. The nave is covered with a flat wooden ceiling, and the choir has an eight-part wooden vault. The furnishings range from a lavishly decorated pulpit from the late Renaissance (1634), to a baroque altarpiece from 1750, to an organ built by Marcus Runge in 1912. The church is surrounded by a large cemetery. On the south side there is a war memorial for those who died in the First World War from the parish. Immediately next to it is a war cemetery from the Second World War. On the southern edge of the churchyard there is a neo-Gothic mausoleum made of yellow brick. On the northern cemetery wall is the tomb and crypt of the von Haase family from 1882. http://www.dorfkirchen-in-mv.de/content/Version_1/detail_gesamt.php?Reg_Nr=1502
