A beach like in paradise

It is a lagoon communicating with the sea, enclosed by a long sandy tombolo; its dimensions make it one of the largest ponds in Eastern Sardinia, but it is important above all for the richness of the psammophilous flora (which - depending on the distance from the sea - varies from pioneer plants, to rake, eryngium, helichrysum, up to rush, mastic, rosemary, strawberry tree, myrtle etc. of the Mediterranean scrub) and of the avifauna in which a vast settlement of pink flamingos stands out. There are, especially in the southern part, hotel and refreshment facilities, a riding stable and of course some beautiful beaches, both free and with establishments (in la Cinta).

Cala Girgolu (or Ghjlgolu) is located at the base of the Monte Petrosu promontory. This splendid bay is famous for its turquoise sea, light sand and, above all, for the famous turtle-shaped rock, from which it takes its second name. These rocks, called "tafonate", are the result of millenary erosion caused by atmospheric agents. They were shaped by the erosion caused by the quartz crystals present in the granite, which, crumbling over time, created these suggestive formations.

Lu Impostu is located between the Aldia tip, to the south, and the Cappeciolio tip, to the north. It is separated from Brandinchi beach only by a thin wooded promontory and is very similar to the latter, with its crystal clear waters and white sands. To access the beach, there is a large car park, and after a short descent, it is necessary to cross a small ford in the pond behind. Also known as Brandinchi port, Lu Impostu beach was, at least until the 18th century, the place of hidden commercial activities with the hinterland; the name itself, translated from the Gallura dialect, means "place where things are piled up".
