The Rocca del Leone is the medieval fortress with an irregular pentagonal structure built starting from the thirteenth century. This is the main monument of Castiglione del Lago and is definitely worth a visit.

Worth a detour, pretty place

It is a beautiful village located on a promontory on the western shore of Lake Trasimeno. Already inhabited in Etruscan times and then by the Romans (when it was called Clusium Novum, meaning new Chiusi), it owes its name to the construction of the Lion Castle in the mid-1200s. The village stands on these hills, embellished with bright red terracotta bricks.
