Located in the heart of the Upper Valdarno, Mercatale Valdarno is a historic village that owes its name to its ancient role as a "mercatale," a vital market place and crossroads for trade between the surrounding valleys. Today, it serves as a picturesque gateway where the Arno plain begins to rise toward the cultivated hills.

The Galatrona Tower is an imposing 27-meter-high brick and sandstone watchtower, the only remaining vestige of a strategic 10th-century castle in Valdambra. Climbing its five interior floors, visitors can reach a panoramic terrace offering spectacular 360-degree views of the Tuscan landscape, from the Chianti mountains to the Arno Valley. It is open to visitors from April to October, generally on Saturdays and Sundays.

Nestled in the greenery along the slopes of Pratomagno, Pratovalle is a charming medieval village that retains its timeless atmosphere, with its characteristic stone houses and narrow streets.
