In 1830, Spetzerfehn's second school was built at the lower end; the bell tower was built in 1850. This oldest building in Spetzerfehn is maintained and preserved by members of the "Friends of the Historic Chapel" association; it now serves as a cemetery chapel.

On the history of the old Strackholt station: On June 15, 1883, the coastal railway was opened as a standard-gauge railway in East Frisia. It connected the towns of Emden-Norden-Wittmund-Jever, with a branch line running from Abelitz to Aurich. While the coastal railway formed a semicircle in East Frisia, the inland areas were only inadequately served. In particular, the town of Aurich, seat of the Royal Government and later of the District Government, was difficult to reach. After a long struggle, the "Kreisbahn Wittmund-Aurich-Leer GmbH" (District Railway Wittmund-Aurich-Leer GmbH) was founded in Aurich on January 27, 1898. The narrow-gauge railway ran from Leer via Hesel, Bagband, Aurich, Middels, and Ardorf to Wittmund. After just two years, the network was expanded to include the Ogenbargen-Esens-Bensersiel line, reaching its largest length of over 84 km. Originally, no station was planned in the village of Strackholt. Quite remote, about 2 km from the town, a stop was established in 1900. A waiting room was added in 1902, and a siding was built. In 1917, the Strackholt Purchasing and Sales Cooperative built a goods shed on the property for storing artificial fertilizer. However, the Strackholt railway facilities soon proved too small: in 1936, a 167-meter-long passing track was added west of the main line, and another track was added on the east side. In the early years, the Strackholt station served approximately 12,000 people, and freight volume reached approximately 4,000 tons per year from 1913 onwards. After a turbulent history, passenger traffic had to be discontinued on the Aurich-Esens section in May 1953 and on the Aurich-Leer section in April 1956 due to the poor condition of the tracks. Part of the trail is truly beautiful, but closer to Bagband, the paving is a bit worn and therefore bumpy. But it's definitely worth seeing.
