The German-language television series “Treasures of the World – Heritage of Humanity” – which I can recommend without reservation – devotes a quarter-hour report to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the “NURAGHI” in Sardinia and the traditional shepherds’ song known there as “Canto a Tenore”. The accompanying text to the programme states: “Over seven thousand round towers made of stone blocks weighing several tons are scattered all over Sardinia. Often only the stumps of these megalithic buildings, called nuraghi, remain. The first were built around 1400 BC. Small stones were placed between the mighty blocks, a construction method that made the stone towers safe from collapse." Barumini is much more than Su Nuraxi, and is worth a visit!

Barumini is well known for the archaeological site Su Nuraxi which is located just outside the town. However, it is worth getting lost in the alleys of the town to breathe in its traditions and thousand-year history.

Here is the Oromeu River. In the fall, everything is very dry. In the spring, however, the rivers are full of water. With luck, you might spot wild horses here.

One of the entrances to the Parco della Giara is located here. There is a large free parking lot. A local guide is also on site. There are several feeding places in the park where you can meet the wild horses. However, it is much nicer to watch them in the middle of nature.

Small town especially famous for its proximity to the Su Nuraxi site. However, there are religious buildings of notable beauty such as the parish of the Blessed Virgin Immaculate and the church of San Giovanni.
