The square of Greve in Chianti is beautiful

Medieval parish church, La Macina di San Cresci, a residence for international artists. The interior restoration of the parish church has allowed the rediscovery, beneath the plaster that had hidden them in 1854, of twelve figures of saints, arranged along the side walls and the presbytery. In 2003, the cellars belonging to the rectory were restored, revealing some of the characteristic elements of the ancient peasant tradition. Access via the Municipality of Greve tourist office, currently closed for restoration.

After Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci, Giovanni da Verrazzano was the third explorer of the American continent, but is considerably less well known than the first two. Like Vespucci, he came from Tuscany, and his birthplace, Greve in Chianti, is surprisingly far from the sea for a maritime monoplane. Unlike the other two, he embarked on his voyage not under the Portuguese flag, but under the French flag, and explored considerably more of the North American coast than his companions until he fell victim to cannibals. Beautifully situated place, but the church is currently (May 2025) not open to visitors due to the roof being in danger of collapsing!

As a place, it's not as pretty as, say, Valpoia—there are simply too many cars. But it's still nice and has lots of small shops.

Beautiful tour to do among the olive trees and vineyards

The road that climbs to the hamlet of Montegonzi from Greve in Chianti winds through the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, characterizing this stretch as a typical Chianti road. Arriving in Montegonzi, a small and quiet hamlet, you can admire the traditional architecture of the village, with its stone houses and the panorama that extends to the surrounding vineyards.
