If you pass by here, do not miss a visit to this masterpiece of Norman art. The Cathedral of Monreale was built in the 12th century by order of King William II. Its interior houses splendid Byzantine mosaics and a large cloister.

The journey to Monreale was still strenuous, but the lack of traffic made it relaxing. A great stop at Scipione for pizza, espressos, gelato, and freshly baked rolls for later.
