The Torrione Genovese, or San Giorgio, is one of two towers—along with the adjacent Torrione Stella—built in the early 16th century to defend the city's northern entrance gate (now Porta Parma). The bas-relief depicting Saint George slaying the dragon, a symbol and testament to the Genoese presence in the city, is still visible on the bastion. The Torrione Genovese association, active in the cultural field through the organization of exhibitions and events, is located inside the privately owned tower.

Ponzano Superiore is a fraction of the Ligurian municipality of Santo Stefano di Magra. It is an ideal place to start hiking and mountain biking in the area. The CAI 343 path passes through the village.
