One of my favorite climbs/descents. Unfortunately the road is what it is but if you know it you can get along

Amatrice, a charming municipality in the hills of the Lazio Apennines, is a place steeped in history and resilience. Unfortunately, Amatrice was hit by earthquakes that left indelible scars, but the community showed extraordinary strength in getting back on its feet. In addition to its history, Amatrice is famous for its delicious cuisine, inviting visitors to enjoy the authentic flavors of the region. Amid the natural beauty and courage of its people, Amatrice exudes an authentic and touching charm.

The climb is quite simple in terms of slopes, even if the road surface is often in poor condition. Enchanting views stand out in the background.

Beautiful road, characterized by almost absolute tranquility and a spectacular panorama that extends to the Sibillini Mountains. The slope is pleasantly gentle, avoiding excessive slopes. I recommend enjoying it to the full, but it is advisable to avoid public holidays when it could be filled with motorcycles.

The historic center of Amatrice was unfortunately destroyed by the 2016 earthquake. Part of the town was rebuilt in a modern way using wood as the main material. Not to be missed, at the end of summer, is the festival of the famous spaghetti all'amatriciana, a delicacy known throughout the world which finds its maximum expression here!
