Very nice tour with some elevation gain

The dark bust of the Mother of God holding the baby Jesus in her arms does not stand out much from the gray rock of the surrounding area, so one or two hikers will certainly have passed by without noticing it. This small sacred monument was obviously donated to thank the Madonna; an inscription next to the figure gives the date of September 2, 1940.

The beautifully situated medieval castle overlooks Lake Barrea between the gentle slopes of Abruzzo. The outdoor area can be visited free of charge, inside there is a museum. You have to watch its opening hours to go up. The view is definitely worth the short walk.
