Fontecchio is a small medieval village where time seems to have stopped. The inhabitants are just under 300, and you can perceive it in the silence and tranquility that you breathe walking through its narrow alleys and stone houses. The fourteenth-century source in Piazza del Popolo is a splendid surprise.

Fourteenth-century fountain: in Piazza del Popolo, it has a similar appearance to medieval monumental fountains in the Viterbo area, and was originally used by the masters of the shops that stood close to the walls. The fountain is part of a complex which also incorporates a wall with a votive aedicule, decorated with a Renaissance fresco of the Madonna and Child with angels. The fountain has a circular base basin, with three-room arches that divide the space, in the center of which stands a circular column with plant and human figures, from whose mouths come the spouts (14 masks in all), which ends with an octagonal lantern with Gothic windows, with a conical final cusp.

The village of Fontecchio is located in the suggestive Aterno valley within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park. Its historic center retains the characteristic of a fortified medieval village intact.

It can be visiting by calling the guide, who lives in the area. The number is displayed on the entrance gate. Very beautiful vault!
