Medieval village of Norman origin with one of the best preserved historic centers in Basilicata. Famous above all for the Norman tower that stands out on the skyline of the city.

In addition to the town centre, the history of the ancient village is particular, abandoned following a landslide in 1885. The old town was in fact an innovative example of architecture and a town founded on some ideas centered on socialist philosophy. Today, unfortunately, only a few ruins remain that can be visited, testifying to a country that was defined as "utopian".

The municipal velodrome is a sports facility in the municipality of Oppido Lucano in the province of Potenza dedicated to track cycling and 5-a-side football. It was inaugurated in 2002 and immediately recognized as an Olympic velodrome by the International Cycling Union of Paris.
