The Kyll River originates in the Zitterwald forest from the confluence of three short headwaters near the village of Losheimergraben, which belongs to the Belgian municipality of Büllingen (Wallonia) and the German municipality of Hellenthal (Euskirchen district). One of these streams rises in the Belgian part of the village in the cellar of a hotel. They join at the border near Federal Highway 265 at an elevation of approximately 660 meters above sea level; the river's kilometer markers only begin at this point. At 127.6 kilometers, it is one of the longest rivers in Rhineland-Palatinate and the longest and most voluminous river in the southern Eifel region. Source: Wikipedia

Excellent hotel and restaurant with delicious food and a very friendly chef. Definitely worth a stop.

The patronage of this church, "Maria (or in another spelling:) Assumption of Mary," refers to one of the many memorial days or feast days in honor of the Mother of God Mary. It goes back to the feast of her bodily assumption into heaven, which the (Catholic) Church celebrates annually on August 15th. In the Orthodox churches, the feast is called "Maria Dormition." In many rural areas, it is customary for the population to collect bundles of herbs (called "Kruggweusch" in the Rhenish dialect) on this day and to bless them in the festival service.

Listed building directly below the pilgrimage church. Until 2004 parish office and residence of the parish priest of Auw. After the reorganization of the parishes in the Bitburg deanery, the parishes of Auw, Idenheim and Sülm were merged into one parish in 2005 with a rectory and pastor's apartment in Sülm. Since the vicarage in Auw was no longer needed and also had a large renovation backlog and need for renovation, it was put up for sale. A group of people from Auwer citizens and from neighboring communities acquired the culturally and historically valuable vicarage building and started the renovation and conversion work into an inn with a beautiful beer garden and guest rooms. The sandstone relief on Preister Straße shows St. Joseph. On his left arm he carries the child embracing the globe, on his right arm the white lily as a sign of his purity. The relief is carved from a piece of red Kyllsandstein rock.
